Lake Tisza in General
This is a 127 km2, uniquely interesting area on the Great Hungarian Plain, made by damming up the Tisza. The width is 6 to 8 km, the speed of the Tisza crossing it is 1.1 to 3.9 km/hour, depth 1 to 2.5 m. When moving about Lake Tisza, it is possible to get to the open water surface along the so called flushing channels opening to the main basin, where logs and reefs can make it difficult to navigate. In times of flood, the entrances of the channels are closed by lock gates.
